I'm frankly amazed my Revell E-type arrived intact *inside* the box from the UK. The box got absolutely trashed and crushed.

At least it was ok.
This is the Johan Cadillac hearse. Had to buy a Modelhaus bumper for it too.

I've worked in shipping warehouses before, and let me tell you, speed >>>>>> Carefulness. Loading up a trailer in x minutes or whatever took priority over all the shit that would get broken/ripped apart/whatever. People would send things like delicate vases with 0% protection beyone a thin, easily opened cardboard box into that warzone and be shocked when their shit would get shattered.
When shipping something, assume that the handlers will treat it like a frisbee, and make the necessary packaging precautions. Doesn't matter which service you pick either; ALL of them operate this way. The only way to ensure your shit will get treated with kid gloves is to deliver it yourself.

I thought it was pretty well packaged. Newspaper everywhere, half an inch of bubble wrap around every individual part.

Not enough. If it can't survive someone walking over it, it's doomed. It's that bad.

Apparently it was insured. The seller is working it out now.
